As we age, you may notice more wrinkles and creases around your eyes, forehead and mouth. This is often the result of a break down in the collagen and elastin fibers beneath the facial surface. Squinting, frowning, smiling and smoking may also contribute to the appearance of these lines. Botox® has become one of the most popular and effective treatments to reduce these lines, prevent new ones and give you a more youthful appearance. It is a neurotoxin that is injected in small amounts just beneath the skin to weaken the underlying muscles of facial expression. These muscles are responsible for deeper wrinkles of the forehead, between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) and around the eyes (“Crows Feet”). This procedure is an in office procedure that will take a few minutes and patients can immediately return to normal activities. Patients typically see the benefits from the treatment in 1-4 days following, and the effects typically last 3-4 months.
