Aesthetic Services

Aesthetic services, commonly known as cosmetic enhancements, allow a patient to enjoy a more youthful appearance. The eyes are often the first part of the face to reveal visible signs of aging. Skin laxity and descent cause the eyebrows to droop and the upper eyelids to sag and accumulate extra folds. Fat pockets, puffiness and dark circles under the eyes are common complaints. In any rejuvenating process, a well-rounded approach is required to address not only the current aging changes, but also to stress the preventative aspects and identify underlying medical problems. Our aesthetic services range from non-invasive skin care applications to chemical peels, Botox^® and facial fillers, and surgical procedures.

Melanie Simmons joined Chesapeake Eye Care and Laser Center in 2015. She works with Dr. Orin Zwick, our Oculoplastic surgeon, in our Cosmetic and Reconstructive Center. Her enthusiasm and dedication to helping her clients achieve beautiful, long lasting, healthy skin is evident by the extensive clientele she has developed. Melanie creates a tailored treatment plan that will achieve each client’s specific goals. She received her Associate Degree in Psychology from Frederick Community College and her Aesthetic services training from Von Lee International School of Aesthetics in Maryland.

Prior to joining the Annapolis practice, Melanie worked at Robert Andrew Spa for 15 years. She lives with her husband and daughter in Severn, and enjoys cooking, yoga and traveling.

Botox^®

Botox helps soften lines and creates a refreshed appearance by relaxing muscle movement. As we age, we begin to develop more wrinkles and creases around the eyes, forehead and mouth. This is often the result of a breakdown in collagen and elastin fibers beneath the facial surface. Squinting, frowning, smiling, exposure to sun and smoking contribute to creation of these lines. Botox has become one of the most popular and effective treatments to reduce lines, prevent new ones and give patients a more youthful appearance. It is carefully injected directly into the muscles of the targeted area, such as the forehead, between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) and around the eyes (crows feet), in an outpatient procedure that takes just a few minutes. Results are visible within four days and the effects typically last three to four months. Dr. Zwick, our oculoplastic surgeon and award-winning “Top Doc,” carefully evaluates each individual’s appearance and performs all injections.

Facial Fillers

Facial fillers may be injected into different areas of the face to increase volume, soften lines and provide a more youthful appearance. Injectable fillers, such as Juvéderm^® and Restylane^®, are clear gels comprised of hyaluronic acid – a natural component found in the skin. As we age, this compound’s distribution and function changes, resulting in deeper facial lines and a decrease in the volume of the face. Facial fillers may be injected into areas such as the lips, marionette lines at the ends of the mouth, nasolabial folds (lines from the bottom of the nose to the corners of the mouth), and cheeks. A facial filler appointment usually takes 45 minutes, including consultation, topical numbing cream and injection. Effects can be seen immediately and can last up to a year.

Melanie Simmons, our medical aesthetician, offers patients a wealth of knowledge in skin care and anti-aging skin therapy. She creates an individualized plan for each patient to achieve beautiful, long-lasting, healthy skin. 

After a thorough evaluation of many skin care companies, Dr. Zwick and Ms. Simmons have selected a series of medical-grade skin care products for different skin types. These products may be used for a daily skin care regimen or may be part of a doctor-recommended pre- and post-surgical skin care regimen to supplement the natural healing process.
